Call for Applications

The Financial Markets Group (FMG) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) will host a training workshop for graduate students and junior scholars on the Economics of Corporate Governance.

This intensive summer school is designed for Ph.D. students in economics, finance, and accounting who are interested in research in corporate governance. Recent Ph.D. graduates, post-docs, and early assistant professors may apply, but preference is given to Ph.D. students.

The summer school will focus on cutting-edge research in selected areas of corporate governance and on important open questions. The topics covered will include investor activism, the role of asset managers in corporate governance, the role of executives in corporate governance, and the intersection of corporate governance and organizational economics. The workshop will be taught by LSE faculty – Amil Dasgupta, Daniel Ferreira, Dirk Jenter, and Mike Burkart – with extensive records of high-impact research on corporate governance and related topics.

The summer school will include around 30 participants. Applicants should have finished the 2nd year of their PhD program by the time of the workshop, and have a solid grasp of the aspects of financial economics, organizational economics and contract theory that bear on the analysis of corporate governance.

The summer school will commence with lunch on Monday, September 7, and will conclude with lunch on Thursday, September 10. Participants are expected to attend for the entire workshop. The FMG will pay for three nights of accommodation in LSE dorms (for participants residing outside London, UK) and will cover lunches and one dinner during the workshop for all attendees. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements, additional meals, and any additional nights of accommodation.

Applicants should assemble the following materials in a single PDF file:
• A cover letter that includes complete contact information and the name of a faculty member supplying a letter of recommendation.
• A recent CV listing completed Ph.D. courses.
• A one-page statement explaining the motivation for attending the summer school, and the applicant’s current research interests.

These materials should be uploaded here no later than 11:59 pm (GMT) on Thursday, March 26, 2026.  Applications that are not submitted by the deadline will not be considered.
In addition, a short confidential letter of recommendation – one to two paragraphs long – from a dissertation supervisor or other faculty member familiar with the applicant’s work, should be sent via email, by the same deadline, to fmg.events@lse.ac.uk. Acceptance decisions will be announced in late April or early May.

Please direct questions about the application process to fmg.events@lse.ac.uk
