Applications are invited for a part-time Research Assistant to assist Dr Simeon Djankov, Co-Director for Policy in Financial Markets Group, in his research project “Women’s Empowerment, Economic Freedom, and the Role of Law in Driving Prosperity” funded by the John Templeton Foundation.

The position involves using statistical packages like Stata or Python or R to document trends in data on gendered laws and regulation over 190 countries for the period 1970-2021, as well as correlating these trends to changes in outcome variables like labour force participation or informality. A summary of the database is here. More broadly, the project investigates the institutional and legal changes that have taken place in sample countries over the period of study, and how these changes affect economic and social outcomes.
