Recognizing the critical role that financial markets will play in determining the success of the UK’s post-Brexit economy, the Treasury is now engaged in a wide-ranging review of the UK’s current financial regulatory framework.
Building upon the SRC/Oxera conference “Rebooting UK Financial Regulation for a Post-Brexit World”, Anamika Ahir, Peter Andrews, and Kevin James participated in a Roundtable on this reform effort hosted by the City’s leading think tank the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation (CSFI).
The speakers argued for three key reforms, namely:
i) set regulators a new objective to “make markets effective from the perspective of the real economy”;
ii) require regulators to collect and analyse the information the regime they implement demands; and
iii) devise new accountability arrangements to ensure that these changes happen.
